The title of this debut album is spot on. There's funk and groove from this Belgian combo who have obviously built their roots with the Bad Brains, Red Hot Chili Peppers, or even PPz30. Fusion of genres, guitar slaps, rhythm section mixed forward, singing in English without an accent, and already a handful of compositions tailored for live stage, like the stirring Bad Smells Like A Monkey. - L.L.
Le titre de ce premier album ne trompe pas. II y a du funk et du groove au sein de ce combo belge qui a dû faire ses gammes avec les Bad Brains, les Red Hot Chili Peppers, voire PPz30. Fusion des genres, guitare slapée, section rythmique mixée en avant, chant en anglais sans accent et, déjà, une poignée de compositions taillées pour la scène, à l'instar du remuant Smells Bad Like A Monkey. - L.L..

Some have good complexion, others don't. Some have a good karma, others not. Froggy have a good groove, it's as simple as that.
Have you seen them burning the stage of a festival this summer? Or heard them on Classic 21 (RTBF)? Our compatriots of Froggy assert a balanced and ambitious rock'n'roll, without hiding their references – The Red Hot Chili Peppers - and their choice, to strike, without revolution, but with force, music that bashes rock'n'roll and hits funk. The patterns are joyfully syncopated, without cheap delirium, the riffs are well felt, and the sense of melody never neglected. Great start to be acclaimed while listening to What the Funk is Rocking on? album available on www.froggy.be.
Certains ont bonne mine, d'autres pas. Certains ont un chouette karma, d'autres pas. Les Belges de Froggy ont un bon groove, tout simplement.
Vous les avez vus arpenter la scène de l'un ou l'autre festival estival? Ou surpris sur Classic 21 (RTBF)? C'est dire si nos compatriotes de Froggy revendiquent un rock sainement ambitieux, comprenez qui affiche d'emblée ses références – les Red Hot Chili Peppers – et son choix, celui d'asséner, sans révolution, mais avec force, une zigue qui frappe rock et cogne funk. Les motifs sont joyeusement syncopés, sans délire gratuit, les riffs bien sentis, le sens mélodique jamais galvaudé. The slamming bass, funky-rock licks and groovy rhymes of Froggy owe a great deal to The Red Hot Chili Peppers. And in this comparison it is clear that Froggy needs to acknowledge their superior in the Californian fab four. En yet I surprise myself -whilst listening to this debut - that I am almost unconsciously shaking through my living room. In other words, the soul of Froggy's music is at the right place and it has everything it needs to spice up your party with some solid hot funk.
De slammende bas, funky rocklicks en de groovy rhymes van Froggy zijn in grote mate schatplichtig aan The Red Hot Chili Peppers. En in deze vergelijking moet Froggy natuurlijk zijn meerdere erkennen in de Californische fab four. Toch betrap ik er mij op, dat ik bij het beluisteren van dit debuut, onbewust al shakend door mijn living struin. Met andere woorden, de ziel van de muziek van Froggy zit op de juiste plaats en heeft alles in zich om je feestje lekker bij te kruiden met een stevige portie pikante funk.

Big town funk is Froggy in one word. But a band that plays funk like Froggy has to cope with the fact that its escapades are compared with the big names of this planet. It has to be said: Froggy passes the test and can compare itself with - not immediately bands such as the Red Hot Chilli Peppers and others - but with the best of fat funk in Flanders at this moment...
Grootstadsfunk is Froggy in één woord. Maar wie funk speelt zoals Froggy moet er tegen kunnen dat zijn exploten vergeleken worden met de groten der aarde. Het moet gezegd: Froggy doorstaat de lakmoestest en mag zich meten, niet meteen met RHCP en konsoorten, maar wel met het beste wat Vlaanderen op dit moment aan vette funk te bieden heeft....
